About Boeremark (Farmers' Market) en/and Boere Verhoog (Farmers' Stage)
The culture of the nation comes alive and smells resonates with us every Saturday morning at the Boeremark (Farmers’ Market). Thousands of people wake up early to experience Afrikaans folk music, food that reflects our culture, and the feeling of being on a farm. The winter’s cold doesn’t deter the visitors at all. The Boere Verhoog (Farmers’ Stage) sets the atmosphere with music unique to our people. The farmers’ market has grown so much since the Boere Verhoog started functioning that the management has extended the operating hours. People now sit comfortably, enjoying the music and socializing together.
Their Goal
A stall has been set up, exclusively selling products made by our projects, thus forming part of the Farmers’ Stage. Ms. Ina Wiegand’s provides musicians to perform on stage, and the musicians also receive singing lessons from Ms. Wiegand. This exposure is invaluable for these young people.
The goal of the project is to establish a platform where the appreciation for Afrikaans is illustrated and experienced.
Aspiring and inexperienced musicians are given the chance to receive training and exposure, and ATTSA also promotes their projects’ products, which they subsequently sell to raise funds.
