The culture of the nation comes alive with smells, and resonates with us every Saturday morning at the Boeremark (Farmers’ Market). Thousands of people wake up early to experience Afrikaans folk music, food that reflects our culture, and the feeling of being on a farm.
The winter’s cold doesn’t deter the visitors at all. The farmers’ market has grown so much since the Boere Verhoog started functioning, that the management has extended the operating hours. People now sit comfortably, enjoying the music and socializing together.
The Boere Verhoog (Farmers’ Stage) sets the atmosphere with music unique to our people.
A stall has been set up, exclusively selling products made by talented people whom are supported by our projects, which forms part of the Boere Verhoog. Ms. Ina Wiegand’s musicians perform for us on the farmers’ stage. They also receive singing lessons from her, and this exposure is invaluable for these young people.
